You don’t want to snap.
So why does it keep happening?

I knew I was burnt out when I started snapping at the people I loved.

It wasn't one dramatic breakdown that made me realise how burnt out I'd become.

It was the snapping.

I'd spend all day as a doctor being patient, calm and compassionate. I'd listen to people's problems, make decisions, carry responsibility and give everything I had to the people who needed me.

Then I'd come home and have absolutely nothing left.

My partner would ask me a completely normal question and I'd snap. Something tiny would go wrong and I'd feel disproportionately irritated. We'd argue over things that, looking back, really didn't matter.

And afterwards I'd feel awful.

Because that wasn't me.

I'd always been patient. I'd always been empathetic. But I was missing birthdays because of work, constantly exhausted and so overstretched that I even noticed my empathy with patients starting to slip.

My fuse had become incredibly short.

What I understand now is that I didn't need someone to tell me to “stress less”. I needed practical ways to recognise when I was becoming reactive and bring myself back down before I reached that snapping point.

So that's what I started doing.

Over time, I built up a collection of techniques that I could actually use in the moment. When I could feel the irritation rising. When everything suddenly felt too much. When I was about to take a horrible day out on someone who didn't deserve it.

And slowly, I started to feel like myself again.

I had more patience. I felt lighter. Little things stopped sending me over the edge. I stopped bringing so much of my working day home with me, and my partner and I stopped arguing over things that previously would have tipped me over the edge.

Most importantly, I felt like me again.

Over more than a decade working as a doctor, I've also taught these techniques again and again to women who were experiencing exactly the same thing.

Women who'd say:

“I'm just so irritable.”

“I keep snapping at my partner.”

“My kids annoy me and then I feel guilty.”

“I don't know what's happened to me.”

I've now taken 10 of the reactive techniques I use myself and have taught countless women in my work as a doctor, and put them together in one practical toolkit.

Not things you need an hour of spare time to do.

Not another person telling you to “prioritise self-care”.

10 tools for the moment you can feel yourself about to snap.

So you can interrupt the reaction, regulate what's happening in your body and respond like yourself again.

10 evidence-informed techniques to help you interrupt reactivity, regulate your response and handle difficult moments differently.

Stop the snap before it happens.

You know the moment. You’re already stretched too thin, someone says or does one tiny thing… and suddenly you’ve snapped.

Then comes the guilt. Why did I react like that? Why am I so irritable lately? Why can’t I just control it?

The 10-Technique Reactivity Toolkit gives you practical tools for that exact moment.

Not “take a bath.” Not “reduce your stress.” Not another list telling you to breathe and count to ten.

These are 10 specific, evidence-informed techniques drawn from established clinical and coaching frameworks, explained by a GP so you understand not only what to do, but why it works and exactly how to use it when your nervous system is already firing.

Inside you'll learn:

  • What to do in the first 30 seconds when you feel yourself about to snap

  • Techniques to bring down the physical stress response when your body is already in overdrive

  • How to interrupt the thought pattern that's fuelling your reaction

  • The simple check that can uncover what's actually making you so reactive

  • How to catch yourself before you say something you regret

  • What to say when you have snapped, so you can repair the conversation properly

  • How to choose the 2–3 techniques that work for you, rather than trying to remember ten things when you're overwhelmed

Because becoming less reactive isn't about “trying to be calmer.”

It's about having the right tools available in the moment you actually need them.

The 10 techniques that will change your life - from a GP

Someone says the wrong thing.

Your child asks you something for the tenth time.

Your partner makes one tiny comment.

You're already exhausted, overstimulated or carrying too much, and suddenly your reaction feels completely disproportionate to what just happened.

Then comes the guilt.

"Why did I react like that?"
"Why can't I just stay calm?"
"I don't want to be this version of myself."

Knowing you should respond differently isn't the same as knowing how to do it in the moment.

That's what this guide is for.

You know the feeling.
